FTCE Elementary Education K-6 Exam
The Elementary Education K-6 subject examination consists of about five sections: Language Arts and Reading; Social Science; Physical Education, Health, Music, and Visual Arts; Science and Technology; and Mathematics. Test-takers will receive a test booklet and a separate answer sheet and will have morning and afternoon test-taking sessions in order to complete the exam. Question formats will include direct question; sentence completion; charts, graphs, and maps; command; and scenario. Each question will contain four response options, which will be answered by bubbling in choice A, B, C, or D.
Each section of the test encompasses competencies and skill areas and includes about 45 questions. Competencies are defined as areas of content knowledge, with skills being the behaviors that demonstrate those competencies. Each competency is also assigned a percentage representing the approximate proportion of test items in that content area on the test. Together, the competencies and skills are representative of knowledge that has been determined by content specialists to be important for beginning teachers.
